Forums
A forum is an online server which fans can access in order to discuss different topics related to a fandom of their choice with like-minded individuals. Many fandoms screen applicants before allowing them access to forums as a way to minimize the risk of legal repercussions or "joke" fans.
Tumblr
Tumblr is an online micro-blogging platform. Many fans use this website because it allows them to select which fan content they subscribe to rather than viewing content on forums, which can often be overwhelming and unorganized.
Fanzines
Fanzines are compilations of fan works such as short stories, art, or essays analyzing canon content. Many are web-based and free to access.
Fanfiction Archives
Websites like fanfiction.net or Archive of Our Own allow fans places to post their work for other fans to view and comment on without worrying about intruding upon "original" creator work or having their writing mistaken for original work, which - again - could result in legal repercussions. These sites also offer little or no restrictions on what content is posted, as a way to encourage community policing rather than admin censorship, which became a problem in some forums.
Conventions
Conventions are places where fans of all sorts of things - comics, movies, books, etc. - get to meet up face-to-face. Often, fans dress up as their favorite characters and participate in games, purchase fan-made content, and also meet with panels of original content creators.
